2025-2026 Bus Policy

The following rules are set in place to ensure that all students can remain safe and allow the bus driver to get them to their destination.

The following rules are expected to be followed by bus riders for daily transportation or field trips:

  • Follow the directions of the Bus Driver, Bus Monitor, and Transportation Manager.

  • Students’ bodies remain in their seats and out of the aisle.

  • Students are expected to board buses at their assigned school.

  • Elementary students in grades K-4 must have a guardian waiting for them at the bus stop or someone who can escort them home. If no one is present at the bus stop to pick up the student, the student will be brought back to the school. Parents of students in grades 3 & 4 can opt to have their student walk home

  • Cell phone usage: Text messaging is the only approved form of communication while on the bus. If listening to music, music must be played through headphones and at a volume where the student can hear directions from the adults

  • Students are to be respectful of bus drivers, bus monitors, and fellow riders.

The following are prohibited while riding the bus:

  • Eating and drinking anything but water

  • Throwing objects in or out of the bus

  • Sticking heads or arms out of the window

  • Standing or moving when the bus is in motion

  • Yelling or inappropriate language

  • Bullying or fighting on the bus or at bus stops

  • Vandalism -drawing on seats or destroying bus property.

*Note: The rules above are not exhaustive, and bus monitors will sometimes need to make decisions on a case-by-case basis as issues arise that put rider and traffic safety at risk.

Consequences:

1st Offense: Warning issued with reminder of bus rules. Parents are notified.

2nd Offense: Student is suspended from the bus for one week. The student’s guardian must meet with a leader of the Transportation Department to ensure that future behavioral incidents do not occur. The student cannot resume bus riding until this meeting has taken place

3rd Offense: Student is suspended from the bus for the remainder of the school year

Please note: If a student is suspended from riding the bus, parents/guardians are responsible for finding another means of transportation to and from school. Absence will not be excused by the school.
