Atlas Schools Inclement Weather Policy
Student safety is always our priority at Atlas when determining whether to close or delay each of our schools.
As a reminder, Atlas is chartered through Harrison School District Two and, therefore, often closely aligns with the decision of the District when it comes to school closures for inclement weather.
On bad weather days, the Superintendent for Harrison School District 2 (HSD2) receives a call from the Director of Operations with information on road conditions. In collaboration with the Superintendents of Widefield, Fountain-Fort Carson, and Cheyenne Mountain (the nearest school districts to HSD2), the Superintendent will make the decision to close schools or announce a two-hour delayed start. Announcements will be made between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m or possibly the night before.
If HSD2 closes its schools, Atlas will close all of our schools.
If a school closure is necessary:
Students and staff will not be expected to participate in remote learning. That is a possibility the District may choose; however, that is not Atlas’ current inclement weather day plan.
If a two-hour delayed start is called, the following will occur:
Breakfast will be served
Buses will run two hours later and run on the regular schedule at the end of the day (please refer to our bus schedule online for specific stops and times)
Classes will begin two hours later and end at the usual time at the end of the day
Please check with your childcare provider to see if they still offer before-school care when Atlas has a two-hour delay. They will most likely be open in the afternoon unless Atlas closes for the entire day or calls for canceled after-school activities. It is advised for parents to get this information directly from their childcare provider.
When inclement weather occurs and parents feel weather conditions are a threat to their child's well-being, they may notify the school, and those absences or late arrivals will be excused. The students are our priority, and we feel strongly that any change in the procedure should be thoroughly communicated to avoid confusion and difficulty for our students, parents, and staff.
Two-hour Delay Monday–Friday
