February means Black History Month at Atlas, and each campus is honoring it in its own powerful way.
📚 Elementary: Morning meetings and bulletin boards feature important stories of Black leaders, innovators, and changemakers, starting every day with inspiration. We caught Ms. Pena's first-grade class on their bulletin board carousel! One even included buttons that played music by black musicians throughout the decades!
🎉 Middle School: Heritage dress-up days + daily announcements highlighting important figures in the Black history movement.
🗣️ High School: Six bulletin boards across campus sharing significant stories and events that shaped our nation.
Walking through our buildings this month, you can't miss it: we are learning, celebrating, and honoring the contributions of Black Americans, not just this month, but always.

🌟 Kevyn Stokes, our Chief of Schools, was named Leader of the Year! Kevyn started as a psychology teacher at Atlas and has risen to ensure our school leaders and teachers are equipped to fulfill Atlas's mission every single day.
🌟 Zach McComsey, Atlas founder and CEO of Legacy Institute, received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his decades of transformative work in the charter school sector.
This is what leadership looks like. This is what dedication to students looks like. And we are SO proud to call them Atlas. 💙

Our students attended a special performance of Peter and the Wolf at the Pikes Peak Center for the Arts, featuring the Colorado Springs Philharmonic, the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony, AND dancers from the Colorado Conservatory of Dance.
Talk about exposure to the arts!
This two-part performance was engaging, beautiful, and exactly the kind of opportunity we want our students to have.
Arts education matters. Experiences like this matter. And seeing our students light up during live performance? That matters most of all. 💙

Our annual Adopt a Student event brought our community together in the most beautiful way. Students and their families enjoyed a home-cooked meal, crafts, games, and gifts chosen just for them—all made possible by our incredible Atlas staff, local businesses, and community partners.
This year we BROKE OUR RECORD, supporting 120 students (up from 79 last year!) because when this community shows up, magic happens. 💙
To every donor, volunteer, and supporter: you reminded these families that they are seen, valued, and celebrated. Thank you for being the heart of Atlas.

🐸 A ribbiting time was had in honors bio last week!
Led by Mr. Cattin, students leapt into a frog dissection, muscling through some toad-ally strong smells and plenty of squirmy reactions. It wasn’t always pretty, but it was hands-on, unforgettable learning that really deepened their understanding of anatomy! 🧪😄

🚌Students looked forward to his kind, gentle heart as they rode to and from school every day. His wife, Michele, as seen in some of these photos, worked at Atlas as our Transportation Manager for over a decade, too. A true power couple! We are forever thankful for Michele and Tom's service to our Atlas community.
